Research we support
Advancing research to transform survival
Research into low-grade serous ovarian cancer (LGSOC) is essential to improving the medical understanding of LGSOC and how best to treat it.
Support from the Low-Grade Serous Ovarian Cancer Initiative helps bridge a critical funding shortfall due to global under-investment in LGSOC research, by facilitating fundraising and donations that advance LGSOC research in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Our goal is to improve survival for the more than 65,000 people living with LGSOC worldwide and for future generations of women yet to be diagnosed.
Together with our LGSOC community and research partners, we’re making significant strides towards finding a cure for LGSOC, with over $500,000 invested in LGSOC research since our formation in 2018.
Highlights from the researchers we support
- An ongoing clinical trial called PARAGON II, conducted by the Australia New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group in Australia, that they hope will lead to better treatment in LGSOC recurrence.
- Research on folate receptor expression in LGSOC by Dr Mark Carey’s lab at BC Cancer in Canada has led to the development of a new clinical trial investigating a folate receptor antibody-drug conjugate in LGSOC.
- Laboratory research to investigate a novel MEK inhibitor combination therapy in New Zealand by the Ovarian Cancer Foundation New Zealand.
- Four novel potential treatments for LGSOC identified through a drug screening panel of 1600 agents by Professor Charlie Gourley and Dr Robb Hollis at the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom.
- The identification of key genetic changes associated with hormonal therapy resistance in LGSOC by Dr K.K. Wong at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in the United States, in a study jointly funded by STAAR Ovarian Cancer and the LGSOC Initiative.
