Low-Grade Serous Ovarian Cancer Research in australia
The Low-Grade Serous Ovarian Cancer Initiative has proudly partnered with the Australia New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group (ANZGOG), the national gynaecological cancer clinical trials organisation for Australia and New Zealand, since 2019 to fund low-grade serous ovarian cancer (LGSOC) specific research in Australia. ANZGOG shares our passion for advancing LGSOC survival.
Professor Anna deFazio AM, is a member of the ANZGOG Research Advisory Committee and is a strong advocate for LGSOC research. She is a renowned translational researcher at the Westmead Institute for Medical Research, University of Sydney and was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2024 for significant service to medicine, particularly cancer research. Professor deFazio heads the translational research committee of the International Consortium of Low-Grade Serous Ovarian Cancer (ICLC) and is leading an international project to molecularly characterise LGSOC to find novel treatment targets.
ANZGOG’s LGSOC research achievements include:
- Paragon I - the first prospective clinical trial of hormonal therapy in low-grade serous ovarian cancer, which closed in 2019 and demonstrated that the aromotase inhibitor anastrozole could be used as a treatment for recurrent and metastatic LGSOC.
- Paragon II - an ongoing trial investigating letrozole (an aromotase inhibitor) plus ribociclib (a CDK4/6 inhibitor) in HR+ advanced gynaecological cancers including LGSOC
- Funding a preclinical research grant for Dr Tania Moujaber to investigate the potential of using MEK and CDK4/6 as a combination treatment in LGSOC
Funds donated and raised through the LGSOC Initiative help ANZGOG fund research to advance treatments and survival for low-grade serous ovarian cancer.
