“If you haven’t been personally impacted by ovarian cancer, then you might not know that it isn’t just one disease; there are several types — and within that, subtypes — of ovarian cancer. The most common subtype is high-grade serous ovarian cancer, and low-grade serous ovarian cancer, also referred to as low-grade serous carcinoma (LGSOC), is one of the rarer subtypes.”

“The median age of diagnosis for ovarian cancer in general is 63 . For low-grade serous carcinoma, however, the average age of diagnosis is about 45, according to David Gershenson, MD , a professor in the department of gynecologic oncology and reproductive medicine at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center . “So it definitely affects, on average, a younger population,” he says.”
