Low-Grade Serous Ovarian Cancer (LGSOC) is a rare and often overlooked form of ovarian cancer. LGSOC Awareness Day on September 9th shines a spotlight on this uncommon cancer, helping to amplify the voices of those affected and promote life-saving education and research. Because LGSOC receives significantly less funding than other cancer types, raising awareness and funds is crucial to advancing treatment options and improving outcomes.
LGSOC Awareness Day is a time to spread the word about the symptoms of low-grade serous ovarian cancer and the urgent need for more research.
If you’d like to take part but aren’t sure where to start, we’ve listed easy ways you can be involved below.
In this article:
Fundraise for research
Because LGSOC is rare and behaves differently from other ovarian cancers, it often is misdiagnosed, and standard treatments don’t always work. Fundraising helps accelerate research that can improve diagnosis, develop better treatments, and ultimately save lives.
By fundraising, you help amplify the voices of those affected and fund the research that can make a difference.
Need some ideas?
Here are four easy fundraising ideas to get you started
1. Share Your Story
Your voice matters. Sharing your experience with LGSOC – or your connection to someone living with it – helps others understand why this rare cancer urgently needs attention.
Personal stories amplify awareness, encourage early detection by spreading knowledge about symptoms, and inspire others to donate.
If you don’t have a personal story, consider sharing important facts about LGSOC and the vital role research plays. Whether personal or factual, your voice helps keep this rare cancer visible.
2. Step Up for LGSOC
Being active is simple, accessible, and a great way to bring people together – even virtually. You could set a walking goal this September, whether solo or as a team, and ask friends, family, or colleagues to sponsor your steps. Every step you take shines a spotlight on LGSOC and helps raise essential funds for research.
This is an easy way to stay active, raise money, and boost awareness all at once.
3. Host a Teal Morning Tea
Invite friends, family, or colleagues for a teal-themed morning tea – coffee, cake, and conversation – with all donations going to LGSOC research. This relaxed gathering is a warm and meaningful way to connect with others, spread awareness about symptoms, and raise funds to support life-saving education and research.
4. Get Creative with Your Fundraiser
Do you have a hobby or skill you love? Turn it into a fundraiser! Whether it’s baking, crafting, hosting a quiz night, or running a raffle, your creativity can engage your community and support LGSOC research in a way that’s fun and personal.
Attend a webinar to learn more about LGSOC
The LGSOC Initiative is hosting a webinar with Professor Amanda Fader on the:

- 10th September 6am – Sydney
- 10th September 8am – NZ
Professor Fader is a Professor of Gynecology and Obstetrics at John Hopkins Hospital and the immediate past president of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology.
She has a specific interest in LGSOC and is a member of the International Consortium for Low-Grade Serous Ovarian Cancer (ICLC). As part of her research she is the Principal Investigator of the Phase 3 clinical trial that hopes to answer whether chemotherapy is a necessary part of treatment for newly diagnosed LGSOC.
Share the Symptoms
Many people with low-grade serous ovarian cancer struggle to get a diagnosis. Sharing the symptoms empowers people to advocate for their health.
